ENTHUSIASTIC volunteers are preparing to give Winsford a big tidy-up.

The Friends of Winsford Town Park are taking part in the Great British Spring Clean this weekend.

The group hopes lots of people will join them on Saturday and Sunday and tidy up their neighbourhoods as well.

John Malam, chairman of the group, said: “It’s a national event organised by the Keep Britain Tidy environmental charity. The Friends have registered to take part and we will be doing a town wide litter pick across Winsford over the weekend."

Wilko is the national sponsor and the Winsford store is supporting the local effort by providing litter picking sticks and refuse sacks.

John added: “Wherever I go these days I’m aware of plastic and glass bottles, cans, takeaway packaging and so on littering the streets and our open spaces.”

“We’ve all seen how much litter is lying around and now’s our chance to do something about it."

Anyone wishing to take part in the clean up can collect refuse sacks and litter-pickers at the viewing platform in the town park from 10am to 11am on Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers can use their own equipment but are advised not to pick up any needles or dangerous items.

The bags will be collected afterwards by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
