A SPECIAL celebration is being held to mark the achievements of local people in Winsford.

Hundreds are expected to join town mayor Cllr Gina Lewis as she awards her Oscars in a ceremony at 8pm on Friday at Winsford Lifestyle Centre.

Names of the recipients shortlisted for the Oscars have been announced today.

A special award will be made by the mayor to mark her year in office.

Scores of nominations were submitted by Winsford residents and local businesses have generously sponsored each category.

On the night a representative from each sponsor will open the gold envelope and announce the winner.

Cllr Lewis said: "The evening is about celebrating the great town of Winsford. Everyone involved in the evening either lives in the town or has links to Winsford, including all our Oscar nominees.

"I am really grateful to our sponsors without whose help this wonderful event wouldn’t have happened All the nominees – not just those awarded an Oscar are winners and great ambassadors for our town."

The shortlist for the 2019 Winsford Oscars:

Harry Sharland Young Sports Person of the Year - Holly Weedall.

Weaver Vale Housing Trust Young Volunteer of the Year - Emily Holmes.

Firestone Building Products Performer of the Year - Carli Trigg, Charlotte Heather.

Qwest Services Charity of the Year - Dilip Solanki Kohli, Royal British Legion, Beryl Houghton, Winsford Mind.

Cheshire West and Chester Localities Team Community Initiative of the Year - Shaun Kirkpatrick, Anne and Derek Johnson.

Fords of Winsford Senior Citizen of the Year - Marilyn and Bill Atkinson, Peter Gaskell.

Winsford and Middlewich Rotary Club Community Club of the Year - Laura Wilkinson, Fancy Feet, Community Compass.

Winsford 1-5 Buisness Improvement District Customer Service Award - Harry Sharland, Jimmy and Toni, Electric Church.

Active Cheshire School Project of the Year - Maureen Sheridan, Mark Joule.

Technoprint Environmental Project of the Year - Mid Cheshire Stand Up Paddle Boarders, John Malam, Friends of Winsford Town Park.
