A WOMAN with a disability returned to her car to find an abusive note on her windshield after displaying her blue badge.

Jane Ainley, from Goostrey, was parking at the Tesco in High Street for an appointment.

“The Saturday before last I parked my car at Tesco at 8.45am.

“I displayed my blue badge correctly because I know I would be gone longer than an hour because my muscles tense up.

“I came back from my appointment and saw a note on my car that said ‘who can’t walk?’

“Just because people have a blue badge does not mean that they cannot walk.”

Jane is hoping the person responsible comes forward so she can have a chat with them.

She said: “I will happily explain why I have a blue badge and the various conditions I have that mean the blue badge is so necessary for me

“What gives you the right to judge other people? To leave a note without speaking to me directly is cowardly and pathetic.

“I had not been very well that day and usually I would let something that slide off me but this really upset me.”

Unfortunately this is not the first time that Jane has had to deal with this type of abuse.

Jane said: “I have been to ASDA before and had two men say that I do not look very disabled and I actually challenged them. I showed them my blue badge and explained to them why I qualify to have one.

“People do not know how much effort it can take to leave the house and they expect disabled people to look a certain way.

“I put an appeal out on Facebook to see if I can find the person who has done this but I have not heard anything yet.”

The note was written on the back of a business card for the Carpet Unit, a business located in Lewin Street.

Jane said: “The staff at the Carpet Unit have been amazing with me. They are just as keen as I am to find out who is responsible.”

The Guardian approached the manager of the Carpet Unit, Jackie Broad to comment on the incident.

Jackie said: “I am absolutely disgusted that someone would use one of our business cards for this.

“I have illnesses myself and if this happened to me it would really upset me. You are judging a book by its cover.

“I would be mortified if I ever upset anyone like this.”
