A NEW housing development is being named after a Winsford family who farmed the land for generations.

Bellway Homes has acquired 11.5 acres of land on Ways Green for a new residential development of 119 properties.

The site, formerly Ways Green Farm, will now be known as Platts Meadow, named after Frank and Sandra Platt who owned the land and farmed it for more than 50 years.

The farm had been in the Platt family since 1800 and the front fields, where the new homes will be built, was fondly nicknamed Platts Meadow.

The family has sold the site due to ill health.

Following the sale of the land and as a touching tribute to generations of local farmers, Bellway has confirmed that the new development will retain some of the farm’s rich heritage.

Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway Homes, said: “On acquiring the land at Ways Green Farm we received a lovely letter from Sandra Platt detailing the family history of the farm and requesting that one of the new roads at the development to be named Platts Meadow.

"We loved the background and link to the Platt family since 1800 so we decided that the only name for the development was Platts Meadow. We are thrilled that this small piece of Winsford history will be remembered for future years.”

A mix of three bedroom semi detached homes as well as three and four bedroom detached properties will be built.

Construction will start on site soon.
