A PARENT of two children at St Mary’s Primary School is fundraising for more resources for the school’s nurture room.
The idea of a nurture room is to provide a safe space for children to address barriers to learning and development such as social, emotional or academic difficulties.
Gemma Dillon has set up a Just Giving page with the aim of raising £700 for new resources and so far she has raised £595 for the room.
Gemma said: “I’d like to raise funds to enable the purchase of new resources for this unique and special place.
“The school‘s nurture room is used to help children develop in numerous ways academically, emotionally and socially.
“The room and its specialist staff can help children with additional needs, speech and language difficulties or just to act as a peaceful and quiet place.”
She has also visited the nurture room to paint her own murals on the walls.
Gemma added: “I have painted a number of murals for the room and to repurpose and upcycle the existing furniture.
“Funds raised would enable us to purchase some new furniture and resources which will add to the functionality and therefore the enrichment potential of the room.
“The staff at St Mary’s work incredibly hard to try and address many of these issues and the Ofsted inspection highlighted this, I would love them to get the recognition they deserve.”
