THE selection day for the Middlewich Rose Fete will take place in the Royal British Legion in Lewin Street on Saturday, February 2.

The event is only for the children applying for the main roles of the rose fete.

The available roles are rose bud, rose princess, festival prince, fairy queen, festival queen, festival king and rose queen.

Theresa Kay, from the organising committee, said: “Last year we had such a good Rose Fete. This was partly due to the weather and the fact there Royal Wedding was on as well.

“We cannot control the weather but we are hoping that last year’s success can inspire everyone to continue to support us this year as well.

“We want to build on the success of last year and keep working to get better.”

Children and parents need to arrive at 2pm prompt to register.

Children will be given a list of five questions they will be asked when they are called to the front so that they may think of their answers in advance.

The Rose Queen applicants must deliver a short speech. A speech guide will be given at registration.

Children will be invited up one at a time in order of the roles they have applied for.

The judges for the selection day will be Alison Summer, from Rainbows Day Nursery, Sophie Quinn Jones, from SQJ Dance & Drama and David Lee, from the Alhambra Restaurant.

Children will be judged on smart appearance, personality, confidence and presence. All children will be asked to curtsy or bow following their questions.

The Rose Fete this year will again take place on Market Field on Saturday, May 18.

If a child is not selected as a main role, they will automatically be given a role as a lady in waiting or an attendant.

To register your child as an attendant or a lady in waiting email middlewichrosefete@gmail.com with your child’s name, age, school/nursery, address and phone number.
