MIDDLEWICH High School Community Choir and Holmes Chapel Chorus raised £1250 for the Neonatal Unit at Leighton Hospital.

The two choirs were specifically raising funds for much needed equipment in the form of “Kangaroo Care” chairs, and the amount raised will enable the unit to purchase another chair.

Kangaroo Care is skin-to-skin contact when a baby is placed against the parent’s chest.

Benefits include improvements with lactation and with establishing breastfeeding, and better weight gain for the baby.

Julie Barker, who is musical director of both choirs, said: “We were all thrilled that we have been able to reach the target and I recently had the privilege of visiting the Neonatal Unit to present the cheque for £1250 to the Mid-Cheshire Hospital Trust Charity.

“It was a great achievement to be able to support a local charity with resources that will benefit many people in the community and having spoken to the charity about their needs.”

Both choirs have just restarted rehearsals with programmes for their summer concerts.

Middlewich High School Community Choir has just over 30 members and their concert is planned for Saturday, June 8.
