BARNTON Community Primary School is celebrating a unique success following the government’s publication of the primary schools performance tables.

The performance tables were released last week, with schools being ranked based on the percentage of children at each school who met their ‘expected standard’.

Barnton Primary came just above the national average of 64 per cent, with 65 per cent of their children achieving their expected standard in the exams.

However, one remarkable achievement that headteacher Alison Lawson is beaming with pride about, comes through the school’s progress in reading.

And it’s an achievement she puts down to the sheer determination of her staff.

Mrs Lawson said: “At Barnton Community Nursery and Primary School, we are celebrating being in the top one per cent of all schools nationally for our progress measure in reading, and the top five per cent nationally for our progress measure in maths and writing.

“This is testament not only to the staff’s drive and determination to ensure the very best provision for our children, but also to our children’s determination to succeed in all they do.

“As a Flagship school for Inclusion, we believe that all of our children should have the opportunity to believe they can achieve their very best.”

Meanwhile, Northwich’s Victoria Road Primary School came below the national average for pupils meeting their expected standard, with 57 per cent.

But, like Barnton, the school had other things to shout about.

Victoria Road Primary School finished not just in the top one per cent in the country for progress in writing, but found themselves sitting in the top 0.2 per cent.

The writing progress of the pupils at Victoria Road was the 31st best.
