BURGLARS armed with a sledgehammer, broke into the Swanlow Lane Post Office in Winsford in the early hours of the morning.

At around 1.30am last night, Tuesday, two men carrying a sledgehammer smashed holes in the front door of the Post Office to gain entry to the premises.

They then stole a quantity of cash before fleeing on foot in the direction of Welsh Lane.

The offenders were both wearing all dark clothing and had hoods up over their heads.

One of the men was tall and thin and was wearing a balaclava, a dark coat and Nike trainers with a bubble around the back of the heel.

The other offender was shorter and stockier and had a dark bubble coat on.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with information or CCTV or dashcam footage that may aid their investigation to get in touch.

Detective Constable Martin Tarpey said: “Burglary is a serious crime and we are determined to catch the men responsible and bring them to justice.

“As part of our investigation we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area.

“We also want to hear from anyone who believes they may know who the offenders are or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them or a vehicle they may have used to get to, and then flee, the scene.”
