A FUN-LOVING gran is bringing festive joy and laughter to children at Willow Wood Community Primary School in Winsford.

Every day in December teaching assistant Pauline Lee dresses up as a different Christmas character.

The 54-year-old has a wardrobe full of colourful costumes and excited pupils can’t wait to see what she turns up in!

They wait for her at the school gate, eager to pose beside her for selfies.

A Christmas pudding, Rudolph the reindeer, an elf, a parcel, a cracker and snowman are just some of the many outfits she has worn.

“I just love Christmas,” said mum-of-three Pauline, who has taught generations of children at the Bradbury Road school. over the past 15 years.

“It started with Christmas jumpers and a bit of make up. Then I decided to wear costumes. I’ve been dressing up for around 10 years. Just seeing the excitement of the children and parents makes my day.

“It’s all about bringing a smile to people’s faces.”

Pauline keeps her colourful costumes on all day - even on the playground where she is also a midday attendant.

She also runs a singing club at the school and is a big hit with pupils and their parents.

Mum-of-two Charlene Hill, whose daughter Layla, five, is a pupil, said: “Our children idolise her. She comes as a different character every single day, it’s amazing!

“I don’t know how she does it. She loves the children and she cheers everyone up.

“This special lady deserves a big thank you from us all.”

Pauline, from Winsford, has three sons Joshua, 25, Daniel, 23 and Cameron, 18, and two grandsons Josh, seven, and Riley, three.

“My grandchildren love the fact that nanny dresses up - it’s all fun for me,” she said. “The staff think I’m crazy but they absolutely love my costumes. One of my friends at school Hannah Pye puts on my make up and helps me to make some of the outfits.

“I have to send my husband Kevin a picture every day to show him what costume I have chosen. He is on 6-2 and leaves for work before me.”

Pauline upgrades her costumes and introduces new ones every year, buying some and making others.

She stores them in the attic and brings them down to be freshened up in time for December 1.

Last week, she surprised everyone turning up as the fictional monster created by Dr Seuss in her new Grinch onesie- complete with a bright green face!

“I’m nothing special,” added Pauline. “I just enjoy my job and love the community. This time of year is so busy it’s great to put a bit of into it.”
