LIVERPOOL-BOUND train passengers are urged to plan ahead amid significant disruption over Christmas and new year.

Planned re-signalling works take place along the Crewe to Liverpool line from Thursday, December 27 to Wednesday, January 2, with trains terminating at Runcorn during that time.

A replacement bus service will then take passengers to Liverpool South Parkway, for Merseyrail services into Liverpool city centre.

John Oates, chairman of Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association, said: “MCRUA appreciate that many passengers from Winsford, Hartford and Acton Bridge will be travelling into Liverpool in this busy holiday period to visit relatives, for shopping or to enjoy the Christmas shows.

“Our advice is to plan your journey carefully by checking out the National Rail Enquires website or seek advice at your local station and then keep your eye out for the latest information.

“Journey times will be significantly increased so you may find it better to travel before Christmas if you can.

“This warning is particularly important for those travelling to Liverpool South Parkway for flights from John Lennon Airport.”
