HARDY Knutsfordians braved heavy rain and strong winds to make the town's Lantern Parade a success on Saturday night.

The event, featuring a large badger lantern provided by Handmade Parade, was led through the streets by town mayor Cllr Peter Coan and the City of Chester Brass Band.

In the face of the wintery conditions, those walking in and watching the parade brought festive cheer to the town centre.

The parade had been preceded by lantern-making workshops in November, with lanterns lighting up the streets.

Cllr Coan said: “Thank you to all those who came out in the cold and rain to take part in this event.

"The lanterns looked fantastic and the music from the band and choir kept spirits high despite the weather.

"A big thank you also to the Knutsford Hosts volunteers whose help with the event was much appreciated.”

The Community Crib service followed the parade, which involved the town’s clergy, and carols being were by the Yorston Lodge school choir.

The Parade and Crib Service concluded the Christmas events organised by Knutsford Town Council, but there are plenty of activities taking place in the rest of December in the town.
