BIG-HEARTED shoppers have donated lots of Christmas presents to treat children in need.

Asda on The Drumber is still appealing for unwanted gifts and new toys for the Salvation Army to distribute to families in crisis.

And travellers have inundated the store with hundreds of pounds worth of food for mid Cheshire Foodbank.

Community colleague Tina Holt said: "People have been absolutely brilliant. We have received lots of toys, chocolates and selection boxes.

"The travelling community from sites in Winsford have been amazing.

"Boxer Tyson Furey appealed to the travelling community to help homeless people and they've treated it as an ice bucket challenge. It has really spurred them on. At one point we had 21 trolleys full of food for the foodbank! They are spending £100 on a trolley to donate to the homeless. It has been brilliant!"

Asda has teamed up with the Salvation Army to help families in crisis.

Staff are looking for festive donations for babies and boys and girls of all ages as well as teenagers.

"Ideally we're appealing for new toys," said Tina. "Any unwanted gifts such as toiletries and luxuries would be fantastic, colouring books, pencils, crayons, reading books and games, anything that makes Christmas fun.

"For families in crisis the last thing you think about is chocolates. When you're struggling on a budget trying to feel yourselves you haven't got time for luxuries."

The store is also collecting food donations for mid Cheshire Foodbank.

Collection trolleys are situated beside the community noticeboard.
