A RECORD sum has been donated to the 2018 poppy appeal in Winsford.
The Winsford branch of the Royal British Legion has announced that £45,018 was raised to help fund their charitable work, an increase of £7,820 on last year.
Legion spokesman Keith Stubbs said: "The branch extends grateful thanks to members, supporters and also to local army, sea and fire cadets who volunteered their time and efforts for the collections.
"Thanks to the Winsford supermarkets for allowing collections within their stores and also to other shops and organisations who accepted collection boxes on their premises.
"The main tribute must go to the general public who contributed so generously, especially in view of the present uncertainty over our economic future. Thank you all."
