A LORRY driver timed his comfort break terribly after being caught peeing on the hard shoulder right in front of motorway police officers.

The man was spotted by officers just after the M6 Knutsford services this afternoon, Tuesday.

He received a TOR (Traffic Offence Report) which will mean a fine and potentially points on his licence.

A spokesman added: "A lorry driver has been given a TOR for taking a comfort break on the hard shoulder of the M6 just after Knutsford Services.

"He also carried out the said act without noticing the fully liveried police car behind him."

What does the law say regarding stopping on the hard shoulder?

The side of a motorway is a very dangerous place to be and stopping on the hard shoulder is only permitted in an emergency, if you break down or if a police officer tells you to.

Stopping on the hard shoulder for anything other than the reasons above could result in a fine of up to £100 and three penalty points.

What should I do if I have no choice but to stop on the hard shoulder?

Advice from the AA is to exit your vehicle on the left, get far away from your vehicle and behind the barrier (if one is present) and then call for assistance – it’s just not safe to remain in the vehicle.

If you’re unsure where you are, look for the blue location signs.
