THE Middlewich Heritage Trust has enjoyed a successful 2018 with a number of projects coming to fruition.

The trust’s partnership project with Saltscape delivered a new canal-side bench and a pathway around the auxiliary Roman Fort at Harbutt’s Field.

The site is completed with new interpretation panels, gates, trail leaflets and signage.

Kerry Kirwan, heritage development officer, said: “Through Saltscape we also forged new links with Canal and Rivers Trust who launched a towpath task force for Middlewich and a potential Youth project.

“It is hoped that volunteering opportunities will continue to be taken up for 2019, so we can work together to make our canal side a better place.”

The heritage trust received further funding support in September for the Great War Centenary.

They delivered information and sessions to local school groups, supported art sessions, added 14 missing names onto the Town memorial and re-typed the Roll of Honour.

Kerry added: “All the projects we do is for the preservation of the heritage of Middlewich, aiming to save our heritage at risk, rescuing unique elements of our town’s history and putting plans in place to safe guard our conservation areas.

“Fundraising is always very difficult for charities, funding bids are a big part but we also need funding to continue to carry out our work.

“The public can help with this. We are in the last stages of the Tesco Bags of help Scheme, our remembrance garden project is being voted for in Tesco stores currently.”

The Middlewich Heritage Trust has also created its first calendar this year, using the photographs from this year’s photographic competition.

The calendar is available on the website middlewich-heritage.org.uk/merch.
