A COMPANY premises in Winsford Industrial Estate had to be evacuated yesterday due to an electrical fire.

The fire broke out at around 11.30am in men’s toilets at Howdens Joinery kitchen manufacturing firm in Road One.

Firefighters from Northwich and Winsford were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “Just after 11.30am firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the men's toilets at the Howdens Joinery in Road One.

“A full evacuation of the premises took place and the electrics were isolated.

“Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“Fire crews then used two large high-pressure fans to clear smoke from the toilets and the warehouse area of the premises. Firefighters were in attendance for just over an hour.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been an electrical fault on a hand dryer.”
