MIDDLEWICH Primary School was visited last week by MP Fiona Bruce as part of the school’s work for Parliament Week.

The children in the school had been taking part in activities to increase their understanding of parliament before Fiona’s visit.

Key stage one pupils focused on democracy and voting and key stage two pupils learnt about debating and referendums.

Pupils from years five and six explored the process of how laws are made and researched Fiona Bruce’s pledges and the six main aims of her campaign.

During her visit, Fiona met with the head pupil team who had initially invited her to school.

They shared how the school practices democracy and enables pupils to have a strong voice through the school council.

Fiona gave an assembly to the year five and six pupils and talked about her experiences as a female MP and the equality that exists within the government.

The MP for the Congleton Constituency also discussed her personal inspiration for becoming an MP and how she represents the citizens of Middlewich and her constituency in Parliament.

A spokesman for the school said: “The staff and children very much enjoyed the assembly, finding it informative and engaging.

“Mrs Bruce was very complimentary about the children’s knowledge and behaviour.”
