A quirky cabin has been built among the trees and wildlife at a school in Painswick.

Children at The Croft School celebrated the opening of their new cabin just before half term, and both teachers and students are excited to use it as a classroom.

Head of the school, Rebecca Gore thanked staff and parents before she invited the oldest and youngest pupils to cut the ribbon outside the new classroom.

β€œIt was very scary because I was worried that I might slip and damage the door-handle or the glass with the scissors,” said Gabe Mercer, a very excited pupil.

The cabin was built and funded by friends of the school and is set in a beautiful wooden nature area.

It is hoped that learning outdoors will teach the pupils new skills and help them become more self-reliant.

Ailsa Catt, a teacher at the school, said: "We are just delighted with the cabin and the nature area is an amazing space that the children love.

"This is great because outdoor education can help teach the children skills such as problem solving and team building."

As well as this, teachers hope that the new outdoor area will work to improve the physical and social experience of pupils at the school.

"I like the lodge because we get to use the nature area a lot more now," one student commented.
