CLEDFORD Primary School pupils have taken part in a First World War-themed Arts Review, culminating in a visit to the school by Royal British Legion members.
Headteacher Jane Booth explained how the school had working on the project all term, based on a North West Drama scheme of work.
She said: “They have used drama, dance, art and music to help pupils understand the significance of this period in history. They received funding from the National Heritage Lottery and Middlewich Heritage Trust, and Middlewich RBL also worked with the children.”
During the visit from Legion branch members and Middlewich mayor Cllr Bill Walmsley, children showed off their review to the parents.
Below is a poem by Year 6 pupil Holly Forshaw-Johnson, penned as part of the project.
‘Born to Know’
They lie beneath the poppies, below the crosses
Injuries shall not weary them, as the years pass
Yesterday they saw the sunrise but not the sunset
Everyone will remember them.
As one life is taken a star goes duller,
Standing on the front line seeing the crosses,
When the star disappears in the morning another life goes
To the end, to the end, they remain.
