POLICE officers are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old Northwich woman was hit by a lorry on the A556 on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 4pm on November 13, to reports of a collision between a HGV and a pedestrian near the Royal Gardens junction at Davenham.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The ambulance service was called at 3.52pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

"A number of resources were sent, including a rapid response vehicle, ambulance, two senior clinicians and an air ambulance.

"A female patient was taken to Aintree Hospital by air ambulance with head and leg injuries."

The driver of the white Scania HGV, a 51-year-old man from Manchester, was uninjured.

Following an initial full A556 closure, the eastbound carriageway between School Lane at Hartford and the Davenham roundabout was closed as the incident was dealt with, and fully reopened by 10pm.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 240317.
