A SMALL number of pupils from Middlewich High School have taken it upon themselves to make a difference in the school.

The random act of kindness group was formed in September this year and at the moment there are eight pupils involved.

The group was organised by Helen Thomas, head of RE, but the actions the group takes to improve life in the school are decided by the schoolchildren themselves.

Helen Thomas: said: “One of the things that makes Middlewich high School great is its community spirit.

“Middlewich Kindness Group has been created to raise a smile by carrying out small acts of kindness for each other.

“So far we have created kindness challenges for pupils when they take a library book out, posted thank you notes around school, and have volunteered our time to tidying classrooms and setting up lessons.

“We have now been asked to help departments with projects such as making boxes for a new recycling scheme.”

The group has meetings every Thursday to decide what they can do next and Helen has been amazed at the enthusiasm of the pupils and their commitment to make any improvements they can to school life.

Helen said: “It is great to see pupils consistently giving up their time to spread kindness across the school.

“They have come up with the ideas, and it makes me proud to see how enthusiastically they carry them out.

Helen is hoping that the group can inspire others in the community to start similar groups.

Helen added: “In the future it is hoped that we can extend our kindness out into the local community and we already have ideas of what we can do.

“As a group, we would like to spread a little happiness across the school by planning little things that brighten people’s day, both to staff and pupils.”
