KNUTSFORD Day Nursery has been rated as ‘good’ by education watchdog Ofsted.

The nursery in Brook Street, which has 64 places, was inspected last month, and was rated as ‘good’ in all areas looked at - the quality and standards of the early years provision, effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, and outcomes for children.

The report said: “Parents comment that staff are very supportive to children and families, and are professional and caring.

“They suggest this has helped their children to settle quickly and make good progress during their time at the nursery.

“Leaders and managers have implemented effective systems that monitor and enhance the quality of the nursery.

“They have made successful changes since the last inspection to ensure children have a wide range of experiences in the outdoor space.

“Staff place children's interests and ideas at the centre of their planning. They use children's interests to inform planned activities and provide families with many examples of how to support further learning at home.

“It [the nursery] is not yet outstanding because at times staff do not always consider how children of different ages can be fully involved when taking part in planned activities together.

“Although assessments are good overall, information is sometimes not used effectively to identify specific next steps in children's learning.

“To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should review and enhance arrangements for large group activities to more effectively consider how to enable younger and less confident children to fully join in, and strengthen assessment arrangements so they are precisely focused on what children need

to learn next.”
