A REMEMBRANCE board has been unveiled to honour the 247 men from Winsford who lost their lives in the First World War.
Ian Rogers, chairman of Cross Hatch Gallery, has painstakingly spent 10 months creating replica dog tags, recording the name, rank and regiment of each fallen serviceman.
Soldiers wore two tags in battle. If they were killed, one would be left on the body for identification and the other enabled their next of kin to be notified.
A book, The Winsford Returns, written by historian Alan Ravenscroft lists the town’s fallen heroes and was used to compile the commemorative plaque.
Ian said: “Without these guys would we be leading the life we’ve got today?”
The board, made for Winsford Royal British Legion, is now on display at their unit in Winsford Cross Shopping Centre where poppies are on sale.
