Plans resubmitted to Cheshire East Council for Centurion Way development

The site is to the north east of Middlewich town centre and the number of houses for the development is expected to be 347.

The planning statement said: “The site provides a unique opportunity to deliver much-needed new homes to meet local needs and a much-needed purpose-built community facility at a key gateway location in Middlewich.

“The proposals as set-out in this statement respond to the context of the site in terms of its relationship with the current settlement edge of Middlewich.”

The traffic assessment for the application states that the proposed development would only have a minimal impact on traffic in the area.

The statement said: “The transport assessment submitted with this application identifies a roundabout junction along Byley Lane to be the most appropriate principal means of access into the site that would serve both the northern and southern parcels of land.

“The council’s highways officers have also indicated that access off Byley Lane would be their preferred approach.

“The proposed access arrangements into the development will require the removal of part of the existing hedgerow that bounds the site along Byley Road.

“Where possible the hedgerow will remain but will require to be realigned to take into account the new entrance.”

This has been disputed by some residents who have submitted their objections to the plans to CEC.

One resident said: “Centurion Way roundabout is one of the most congested areas of Middlewich.

“Traffic from the M6 queue at various times of the day, this proposal will add to the traffic in the area.

“Centurion Way Is also a through route for HGV vehicles, again the proposal will add to traffic in the area.

“Every time there is an accident on the M6 between J19 and J17 the area is grid locked. This happens several times a week already.”

The last date for submitting comments is November 9.

The proposal will go before the planning committee on November 21.
