TODDLERS took on a big challenge during a one-mile sponsored toddle at Oak View Academy.

Youngsters from the school’s nursery and reception classes were joined by their families and teachers to complete four laps of the playing fields.

The intrepid tots earned sponsorship money for completing their challenge, organised by Early Years Lead teacher Imogen Moffatt and head of infants Charlotte Alford.

Mrs Alford said: “All the children had huge grins on their faces and enjoyed spending some time exercising together in the glorious sunshine.

“Everyone completed four laps of the football pitch - which is a long way for little legs!

“Well done to all who took part and helped us raise money for new early years equipment.”

The Whitby’s Lane school has recently announced that it will extend its nursery provision to accommodate even younger children from the age of two to offer them a head start in education.

Principal Fiona Whittaker says it is another important step forward for the quickly improving school, where pupils are making progress faster than at any other primary in Cheshire, according to last year’s SATs results.

She said: “By opening our doors to children as young as two, we are confident we can give them the best possible start in education.

“It also enables us to build close links with our families and to share how we can work together to give our youngest children the best possible start in life.”

The nursery within the school building currently hosts children from age three, but the additional Little Acorns nursery class – based in the adjacent Children’s Centre – will welcome two-year-olds.

Oak View Academy is part of North West Academies Trust, which manages schools across Cheshire and Shropshire including Delamere Academy, near Northwich, and St Martin’s Academy, Chester.
