VOLUNTEERS are invited to discover how to recognise plants and help spruce up the town's green space.

The newly-formed community group Friends of Winsford Town Park is organising autumn sessions.

Park horticulturalist Jo Fawcett is running a series of events to introduce people to various plants.

There will also be a chance to do some light weeding and prepare areas for bulbs.

The first session will be held on Thursday, October 11 from 10.30am to 1pm.

Volunteers can stay as long as they wish.

Tools are being loaned but volunteers are asked to bring hand trowels, hand forks and buckets and sacks for weeds.

St Andrew's Church has kindly offering tea and coffee at their weekly cafe session where toilets will be available. People are asked to leave muddy boots outside the building.

Further sessions will be held on October 31, November 15, November 28 and December 13.
