NEW exercise classes are helping families to improve their health and wellbeing.

Fitclub sessions have started at Oak View Academy on Whitby's Lane.

People of any age, shape, size or ability are welcome to workout together on Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm.

Generations of the same family are enjoying sessions under the guidance of John Fielding and partner Kay-Leigh Richardson.

John said: “It’s great to see everyone come along and get fit together. The children really enjoy it and are usually the ones asking to come back.

“We have people with a full range of abilities and we are very supportive of one another.

“Kay-Leigh is very spiritual and we wanted to share our knowledge of fitness and wellbeing and give something back.

“We ask for a small payment to cover costs, but that’s all.

“When we approached Oak View to do the class there, they were really keen.”

Participants are already seeing results.

Donna Moreton, who joined six weeks ago, says it has helped her lose weight.

She said: “I can now run around a field with a football. I have more energy to play with my children and look forward to each session. It’s great fun.”

Head teacher Fiona Whittaker said the school feels it is important to support initiatives like FitClub.

She said: “We are always keen to back community groups that offer benefit to our community. Getting fit is great for the body and the mind."

The sessions cost £1.

A session is also held in Hartford on Sundays.
