A YOUNG woman from Winsford has secured a full-time job after attending completing a programme run by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Fern Askey, from Winsford, took a two-week work placement in the customer service department at Qwest Services as part of the Prince’s Trust Programme.

When a position became available, the 23-year-old applied and was chosen for the job.

She will begin her new career once she graduates from the programme on August 16.

Denice Whiteland, from Qwest Services, said: “Fern initially spoke to us at a local Careers fare and shortly after joined us for her Princes Trust placement.

“She has grown in confidence and we are excited to see her grow further within her new role. The Princes Trust do such great work for the young people in our community that we are honoured to be part of the programme.”

All young people who take part in The Prince’s Trust Programme need to complete a work placement to enable them to graduate.

Nichola Griffiths, Prince’s Trust Programme manager, said: “I cannot tell you how pleased I am for Fern. This is a great achievement and I know she will be a brilliant employee for Qwest. From starting the programme 11 weeks ago she has grown in confidence and has learnt lots of new skills which will stand her in good stead for the future. I wish her all the very best.”

“This is a great example of how businesses can benefit from providing work placements for our young people. In light of this I would encourage people to come forward and offer placements where they can.”
