A VILLAGE hall in Byley has become the first in Cheshire to be completely solar powered.

Byley Village Hall, off Moss Lane, has recently installed a block of solar panels after receiving a grant of £8,000 from Storengy UK and a further £1,000 boost from HW Coates.

Russel Bairstow, chairman, said: “It has been a great way for us to reduce our carbon footprint and cut the bills at the same time. Thanks to the recent good weather bringing in lots of bright sunlight, we have been completely self-sufficient since we switched to solar power.”

The energy is stored in a Tesla battery to be used during the evening when sunlight is not present.
