A WINSFORD woman has been reunited with a precious piece of jewellery after losing it.

Marion Beirne, from Winsford, lost her engagement ring a few weeks ago whilst walking her dog near St. John’s Church.

She said: “I was absolutely devastated when I realised it had gone missing. I am normally so careful with these things. The ring has incredible sentimental value as you can imagine as we have not long celebrated our ruby wedding anniversary.”

The grandmother, who has been married for more than 40 years, had been out with posters and searching with friends, and members of the community even came out to search the fields with metal detectors with no joy.

Marion’s luck changed when Kerry Gollins made a post on the Winsford Community Forum and alerted her to a potential find.

To Marion’s surprise, it was Kerry’s 10-year-old niece that found the ring.

Leah Sands found the ring whilst walking through Carlisle Close, near to where Marion had been earlier with her dog when she lost the precious piece of jewellery.

Lindsey Sands, Leah’s mother, spoke about how impressed she was that her daughter helped find the missing item.

She said: “I’m so proud of how she came to us with the ring and was concerned about the woman who had lost it, even though she would have had no idea who she was. She is a very kind and compassionate little girl and that makes me a very proud mum.”

Marion has since been in touch with the family to collect the lost ring and revisit the location where Leah found her missing piece of jewellery, where Marion also presented her with a reward for finding the 43-year-old piece of jewellery.

She said: “Her kindness has absolutely blown me away and I am very happy that my ring is now back on my finger where it belongs.

“I know that most of these lost and found stories don’t tend to have a happy ending but that is why I count myself very lucky. It was a huge wave of relief to hear that the ring had been found. I arranged to go and collect it from their house and that is when I met Leah.”
