For the final concert of the season the Middlewich and District Concerts Society is delighted to welcome the Roth Guitar Duo, writes David Hawkes.
Sam Rodwell and Emma Smith formed the duo in 2014 whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Craig Ogden.
Both have performed chamber music extensively throughout Great Britain as soloists and in ensembles and have accumulated numerous awards and prizes.
Although their repertoire ranges from Renaissance to contemporary music they have chosen a programme inclined towards the latter, including music by several living composers (Sergio Assad, Stephen Goss, Nigel Westlake and Steve Reich).
As might be expected there is also a strong Southern European and South American influence to the programme, through Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Radames Gnattali, Joaquin Rodrigo, Astor Piazzolla and Manuel de Falla (La Vida Breve).
Together with a few other unexpected composers, this promises to be a fascinating exploration of the world of guitar music.
The concert will be held in the drama studio of Middlewich High School, which is on the junction of King Edward Street and St Ann’s Walk, Middlewich on Saturday, May 12 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £9 (concessions) and will be available at the door.
