PLANS to build more houses off Warmingham Lane in Middlewich have been slammed as ‘ludicrous’ by a Middlewich councillor.

Members of Middlewich Town Council discussed the application at its February meeting and refused to give its backing to the application which would see another 90 houses built in the area.

If approved it would make a total of more than 1,200 newly-built and soon-to-be-built homes off Warmingham Lane.

Cllr Jonathan Parry, who lives in Warmingham Lane, said: “I think this is a no brainer to be honest. The fact that they want to shove more houses down Warmingham Lane is ludicrous. The area is well over populated as it is.

“We have just not got the infrastructure for the amount of houses there already, never mind these extra houses.

“There’s an acceptance that it’s land earmarked for development, but it’s got to be right, and I don’t think this is right.”

Cllr David Latham also said he could not back the plans, citing problems with accessibility and full capacity of schools and doctors surgeries.

Cllr Bill Walmsley suggested asking for s106 money from the applicant to provide a bus service to run residents at the new development in Warmingham Lane into Middlewich town centre.

All members of Middlewich Town Council voted in favour of objecting to the plans, apart from Cllr Bernice Walmsley, who abstained due to her position on Cheshire East Council’s planning committee.

Cheshire East Council is due to make a decision on the application, taking the town council’s feedback on board, on April 4.
