ROADWORKS to complete the M6 smart motorway continue unaffected despite the demise of co-contractor Carillion in January.

Carillion and Kier had been 50/50 partners in the venture, with the latter since taking full responsibility for the work.

Contingency plans by Kier and Highways England mean it is business as usual on the motorway between junction 16 at Crewe and 19 at Knutsford.

All Carillion employees were offered the chance to join Kier, and around 150 – including seven apprentices – have taken the opportunity.

Work on the smart motorway remains due to open to traffic in March 2019.
