A 44-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for two weeks after he was arrested in Middlewich Tesco for taking items off the shelves and throwing them around the shop.

Gary Wallace, who was 350 miles away from his home in Kilmallie Road, Caol, Scotland, when the incident happened on January 4, was seen by shoppers and staff throwing bottles around the store in Southway.

One pregnant woman left the store as police were on their way in, fearful for the safety of her unborn child.

She said: “No one really knew what to do. The staff were standing around like there was a real problem and things were being thrown around.

“I saw a man and his son walk past the aisle and something almost hit his son.

"I just left the store as I have an unborn child to think of, but by that time the police were already heading in."

Police arrived at 5.45pm and arrested Wallace for being drunk and disorderly and criminal damage, and he was charged the following day.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We arrived at the Tesco store in Wheelock Street at 5.45pm and remanded a 44-year-old man who was behaving in an anti-social manner.”

Wallace appeared at Warrington Magistrates where he pleaded guilty to the charges and was sent to prison for 14 days.
