A 44-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for criminal damage after an alleged incident in Tesco Express in Wheelock Street.
Shoppers left the store as a man allegedly began to take items off the shelves and throw them around the shop.
One pregnant woman left the store as police were on their way in, fearful for the safety of her unborn child.
She said: “No one really knew what to do. The staff were standing around like there was a real problem and things were being thrown around.
“I saw a man and his son walk past the aisle and something almost hit his son.
"I just left the store as I have an unborn child to think of, but by that time the police were already heading in."
Police arrived at 5.45pm and arrested a man for drunk and disorderly and criminal damage.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We arrived at the Tesco store in Wheelock Street at 5.45pm and remanded a 44-year-old man who was behaving in an anti-social manner.
“The man remains in custody assisting officers with their inquiries.”
