A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for 14 weeks after assaulting a member of staff at Tesco Express in Middlewich.
Alex Williams, of no fixed abode, Runcorn, attempted to steal several items from the shop in Warmingham Lane on Thursday, November 16, at around 10.45pm.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "He initally tried to make off with some goods, when the member of staff tried to stop him. He then assaulted the member of staff.
"He was restrained and the police were called at 10.45pm and arrested Williams on arrival."
Williams appeared at Chester Magistrates on Saturday and was handed 14 weeks in prison for assault and eight weeks for theft, to run concurrently.
He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation.
