A HIGH presence of police could be seen in the Wharton area of Winsford last night following Monday night’s window smashing yob riot.

Police increased patrols in the area last night and that will remain the same throughout the week.

One car was smashed up in Dee Way and fires were lit in the Bradbury Road play area and in Dart Walk, despite the increased police presence.

Fireworks were also let off by youths in public areas.

Police issued a dispersal order in the Wharton area, ordering lingering youngsters to leave the area or risk being arrested.

Chief Insp Simon Meegan said: “There were a few incidents last night, but by comparison to the night before, they were far fewer in volume.

“We did have extra officers in that area as we will continue to have for the remainder of the week.”
