GREEN-FINGERED gardeners at Winsford’s Over Allotments are gearing up for their annual plant sale in the town centre.

On Saturday, May 20, the Over Allotments Association will be taking the allotments into Winsford Town Centre for its annual plant sale.

The popular one-day plant sale has become a firm favourite with the Winsford community, and the Moss Bank plot-holders are busy raising plants to take into town.

“It’s a great team effort,” said Mike Allen, Chair of Over Allotments Association.

“With our members busy growing plants on their plots and at home. As ever, there will be a wide range of flower and vegetable plants at the sale, from old favourites to heritage varieties, together with hanging baskets and trays of bedding plants.”

The plant sale also brings a boost to traders.

Sue Lerczak, of Winsford Cross Shopping Centre, said: “It draws in many out of town shoppers who come exclusively with the plant sale in mind.

“This in turn increases the footfall and generates increased sales in not only the shops but also the food and drink establishments – and it is always a fun and happy atmosphere on the day.”

As they gear up for the big day, the Over Allotments group is in need of more plant pots and trays.

Mike added: “At this time of year we soon run out of plant pots. The smaller sizes are particularly welcome.”

Pots, trays, and other gardening items can be dropped off at the entrance gate to the plots on Moss Bank, or brought along to the plant sale on May 20.
