THE shortlist for the Town Mayor of Winsford’s Oscars has been finalised.

The Town Mayor of Winsford, Cllr Gina Lewis, will be holding her Oscars evening at the Winsford Lifestyle Centre on Friday April 17 to recognise the achievements of local people.

Winsfordians were asked to submit nominations in a number of categories and now an independent judging panel has drawn up a shortlist of three in each category out of 12 in total.

On the evening itself, a representative of the sponsoring organisation will have the opportunity to present the award.

The shortlisted nominees are as follows: The Plumbley Environmental Services Sports Person or Club of the Year: Hollie Fox, Marcus McBriar and Jake Smith, Hebden Green School, for winning a Cheshire Schools physical difficulties event, Tony Mitchell, for his contribution to junior football and Winsford Boxing Club.

The Weaver Vale Housing Trust Young Person of the Year: Sam Taylor, for his fund raising efforts, Chelsee Fulham, the current salt Queen, Hannah McGee, for her contribution to junior girls rugby The Morrisons Performer of the Year: Sam Lyon, Singer, ‘Cockney Carol’ Wilson, Entertainer and Paul Cassidy, Bandedge Resurrected.

The Winsford and Middlewich Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year: Dilip Solanki-Koli, for his work with the Royal British Legion, Vanessa Tobin, for her work with the Scouts and local food banks.

The Cheshire West and Chester Localities Team Community Initiative of the Year: Kathryn Lowe for her work within the Over community, The Royal British Legion (Winsford Branch) for their Poppy Appeal and Novel Bites Café , Winsford Library.

The Winsford Town Council Senior Citizen of the Year Award: Gerry Sweeney for his involvement in Junior football, Kenneth Bray, long-serving groundsman at Winsford United Football Club and Deina Smith for her work in the community.

The Changing Lives in Cheshire Club or Organisation of the Year: URC Tea and Chat, Winsford U3A and GGO West Winsford.

The Muir Group Housing Association Customer Service Award: Mirage Flowers, Winsford Cross Shopping Centre, Diane Hilditch, the George and Dragon, Delamere Street and Cliff Dickenson and Sons, Station Road.

Business of the Year: Harry Sharland Amusements, Bar No. 4, Over Square and Foodcraft, High Street.

The Fords of Winsford Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Novel Bites Café, Winsford Library, in partnership with Mid-Cheshire College, Thomas and Jasmine Mellor for their stall on the Winsford Cross Shopping Centre and Amit Nayee, Nu Flava.

The YMCA Wirral Event of the Year: The Delamere Street ‘DFest’, the Christmas Street Festival and the Salt Regatta.

The ASDA School Project of the Year: Oak View Academy, for their Breakfast Club, Declan Hunter, St Chad’s Primary School, for his ‘masterplan’ to renovate the school grounds and Wharton Primary School, for their Sensory Garden project.
