MY two love visiting Legoland and could not wait to see the new Ninjago theme.

Day of the Departed was launched at Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester earlier this month and the children were eager to show off their ninja skills by breaking Lego blocks and tackling the Ninjago Laser Maze Challenge.

In Mission Impossible style, agile youngsters duck and dive through laser beams at various angles and heights to come out the other side in the fastest time. I did give it a go but the alarm sounded within seconds — my ninja skills aren't what they used to be.

And they had the added delight of meeting Kai, the Red Fire Ninja, as he made his way through the centre, stopping for hugs, photos and helping himself to bits out of their goodie bags.

Another favourite for us is the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, in which you have to shoot as many ghouls and monsters as you can and try to rescue the princess. The competitive streak in our family saw the four of us comparing scores at the end, though I am convinced the counter on my gun stopped working half-way round.

No trip to Legoland would be complete without a welcome sit-down and coffee for parents, while the children keep themselves entertained on rides such as Merlin's Apprentice, Forest Pursuit Driving School and the soft play area. They could also make their own Ninjago eye masks.

Having enjoyed their morning at Legoland, it was back to the car with pleas to watch Ninjago when we got home, which we did . . . several times!
