Padgate stand-up comedian Bobby Murdock is a columnist for Warrington Guardian.

This month he talks about the fundraising show he has organised for Burtonwood Community Centre, with a headline performance from Phoenix Nights’ Dan Nightingale, as well as the inspiration behind it.

Northwich Guardian:

THIS month I’m trying to raise both funds and a smile at a live comedy night at Burtonwood Community Centre.

I am bringing a top class line-up of professional comedians, headlined by Dan Nightingale, to the Green Jones Brow club this Saturday to help raise money for Burtonwood Rugby League.

I wanted to give something back to the team as I used to play for them for a number years. I’ve always given as much support to the team as I can since then.

I do believe it’s really important for people to participate in sports as it’s a good way to relieve stress and is good for your mental health and wellbeing.

A lot of my stage banter originally came from those days playing for the team.

That sense of camaraderie was really good preparation for being a comedian.

We are bringing three fantastic professional comedians while I’ll be hosting the night with some of my short stories and silly jokes. Here is what you can expect:

ARCHIE KELLY

A regular collaborator with Peter Kay, Archie Kelly has been described by the renowned Bolton comic as ‘a very funny fella’, Archie is best known for his portrayal of Kenny ‘Dalglish’ Senior in the award-winning Phoenix Nights.

He has also appeared in a number of popular TV shows.

His screen appearances include Coronation Street, Peter Kay’s Car Share, Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy Road to Nowhere.

STEPHEN COOKSON

Hailing from the north west, Stephen Cookson exploded onto the UK comedy scene in 2014 and since then has rapidly become one of the most in-demand acts on the circuit.

He has also won several high profile competitions, and has been on the bill with big name comics like Gary Delaney, Justin Moorhouse and Rob Beckett.

DAN NIGHTINGALE

Dan Nightingale is widely regarded as one of the best performers working on the comedy circuit today.

Mixing fiendishly accurate observation with energetic characterisations and killer punchlines, his comedy is original, playful, intelligent, poignant and exciting.

Sometimes ridiculous but always hilarious.

Comedy Night Live comes to Burtonwood Community Centre in Green Jones Brow on Saturday.

Doors open at 7.15pm and the show starts at 8.15pm. Tickets are £12 each including food.

They can be bought behind the counter at the centre, on the door on the night or online at whodaresgrins.com
