Margaret Cliffe

Published on 07/01/2021

MARGARET CLIFFE 11th September 1927 to 22nd December 2020 Margaret was born on 11th September 1927, the only daughter of William and Florence Gowans. She attended Victoria Road Primary School and was one of the first students to go to the newly opened Rudheath Secondary School. In the war she remembered doing times tables in gas masks as well as being responsible for looking after the school chickens. She first started work at Broadhursts biscuit factory, in Rudheath, as a typist. In July 1951 she married the love of her life, Roy Banks Cliffe and they were together for over 50 happy years. As her children grew older Margaret went on to work at the Department of Health and Social Security until 1989. In 2019 Margaret attended the revived Rudheath Fete where, over 75 years ago, she had been crowned Rose Queen. She had a wide circle of friends and was an active member of many local organisations including the Women's Institute, The Tuesday Club and Davenham Young Wives. Margaret was an excellent cook and won prizes for her Victoria sponge at the Cheshire Show. Margaret had a wicked sense of humour, an infectious laugh and was kind about everyone she met. She is survived by her sons Nigel and Andrew along with her four grandchildren, Katherine, Josh, Mark and Callum. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent and loving care received at Leighton Hospital. Family flowers only. Any donations to St Luke's Hospice please. Donations and all enquiries to George Bell Funeral Service, 49 Birches Lane, Lostock Green, Northwich, CW9 7SN. Tel: 01606 42534.

V AMERY January 7th, 2021
I have known Margaret all my life. She went to school with my mother. She was kindest, happiest lady you could wish to meet. Always got a smile on her face. We will miss her.
