So sad to hear of Robin,s passing and that I didn't have the chance to contact him again after so many years. I worked with Robin at Sam Dales where we were not only workmates but good friends. Of all the people who have past through my life, Robin had the most influence on my life. We both shared a love of motorcycles and acquired several for restoration. I still remember helping him down the stairs of his Sproston home, with a Scott motorcycle he had restored in the spare bedroom! Because of winter motorcycling we both sported beards, not at all trendy at that time particularly on a teenager. Nether was our habit of pipe smoking, I can't remember how that came about, but I suspect it was easier to smoke a pipe than a cigarette whilst riding. Shortly after leaving Dales I moved to Cornwall, where I still live. Over the years I have made several fruitless attempts to locate him. I recall collecting him and his new Velocette from Ann,s parents house in Knutsford. The bike refused to start, turning the fuel on would have helped! So I concentrated my search around there, I had called in at Dales receiving not much help. I have so many happy memories of the time we knew each other and grateful for the many things he taught me. Robin was one of life's gentlemen, a great character and friend. O that we should have been given time to reminisce and catch up. He will always be in my memory.
