JANE Brown (Points of View, August 13) appears to be falling in to the wishy-washy liberal trap of trying to understand why criminals are behaving as they are.

Well sorry, Jane, but I couldn’t care less as to why pond life behaves like it does.

I want to see something being done to prevent them from re-offending. I want to see longer prison sentences, harsher prison sentences, more prisons built and the abolition of the Human Rights Act, which protects the criminal.

I want to see punishment being dealt to deter others from committing the same offences.

If some scumbag breaks in to my house then I want harsh justice to be done, possibly meted out by myself. What I do not want to do is to try to understand why the poor little hooligan is breaking the law.

Now it’s time for an iron fist, not lily-livered understanding.

Well said Rob,it really is time for the doo gooders to shut up and take a reality test.Rob is right, more prisons are needed, and these new prisons should be so tough and hard on the criminals that the thought or being sent there for a second time will terrify them.As for human rights for prisoners, once sent to prison, human rights are no longer an issue, they have none!.As there is such a shortage of prisons, why not just send these criminals to some remote inhospitable island, give them a pile of bricks, and other building materials and make them build their own prison, at least they would be usefully employed.I like all the other law abiding population are sick to the back teeth reading about human rights for these low life, what about our human rights?.Rob is perfectly correct in saying what he does, it is time for US to start the fightback, metering out our own justice, if we catch someone breaking into our homes give them what they are asking for, a bloody good battering.
