After reading Sarah Gray's letter (February 6) I totally agree that the courts fail us. I truly believe that if the Government had a public referendum we would see the three Cs - conscription, corporal punishment and capital punishment - re-instated.
Conscription would get all the yobs off the streets and teach them some discipline. Corporal punishment could be for minor offences and capital punishment for murder, rape etc. If people think hanging is barbaric then give a lethal injection.
With DNA now solving 100 per cent of crimes there can be no possibility of error, or so we are told.
There is no deterrent nowadays, I feel sorry for parents, teachers and anybody else who has to try to chastise the young people of today. The do-gooders have a lot to answer for. I do not believe in child abuse or any other kind of abuse come to that, but I believe that if someone is going to abuse, no law in this land will stop them. But if there was a suitable punishment they might think twice.
Just think what we could use all the prisons for if they were not full of offenders and the money saved from keeping them there could be used for hospitals and the NHS.
