I HAVE every sympathy with Liam Byrne in relation to the approved TATA waste incinerator, especially in relation to the 650 HGV movements to and from the plant every day.

I agree that the current road network will be severely overloaded as a result.

Turning to my pet hate, HS2.

Should this totally useless and unwanted project – every poll undertaken shows an average of 85 per cent against – be undertaken as well, will involve 54,000 HGV movements over a minimum two year construction period.

Assuming the contractors will observe the ‘day of rest’, this will equate to some 86 HGV movements in and out of the construction site per day.

Add that to TATA’s projected 650 HGV movements per day; makes one ask the obvious question, can our current road network cope?

With all the projected road re-alignment works and closures involved with HS2, the overloading of the Mid Cheshire road network could spell the death knell of any future economic growth for Northwich and that includes Barons Quay.
