THIS issue (re Vic Barlow’s column) isn’t about freedom of speech – it’s about whether raising the subject and using language that is likely to appeal to racists is appropriate for someone who is clearly ambitious to lead the country.
What Johnson’s comments have done are to polarise the argument in a way that is unhealthy for the debate and for social cohesion.
