YOUR article about TATA’s intention to commence construction of its giant waste incinerator just behind Tesco’s car park in Manchester Road is likely to be the final nail in the coffin of Barons Quay.

After all, who in their right mind would want to bring their children or grandchildren shopping literally in the shadow of two tall chimneys pumping out emissions created by burning 12,000 tonnes of household and commercial garbage every week?

How many are aware that combined waste and garbage treatment plants approved for the Lostock site will mean an additional 650 large diesel HGV lorries on King Street every single day between 7am and 7pm?

These figures are not made up, they come from the planning approvals from Cheshire West and Chester Council and central government. More details are on anti-incinerator.org.uk One particular bit of sheer madness is the fact that there are stretches of King Street where the width of the road is less than the width of two artic lorry tractor cabs.

Heaven help any cyclist in the wrong place when two of these vehicles pass from opposite directions.

It is not too late to prevent this if the council, for once, will take note of what the public is demanding.
