I NOTE the article in the recent Northwich Guardian about pothole and road cleanliness cases and the sensible comments on that topic by a Davenham councillor.

I have entered into my own intermittent correspondence with another councillor on the same topic over the past year.

While he agrees with me he appears to be in the rather alarming position of having his comments and requests completely ignored by Streetscene, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cleaning department.

I have concluded that but for cleaning in core shopping areas the policy is to clean only when the volume of complaints becomes deafening.

Some areas, such as central reservations and traffic islands are never cleaned or weeded and I suspect that the same goes for cleaning of grids and drains to prevent blockages.

I regularly spot grids that have clearly been blocked for a very long time.

Other than becoming a councillor myself to unlock the world of policy setting by unelected CWAC officials, I cannot think of a way in which such arrogance and ignorance of the requests of many local residents can be broken down.
